Magical Things, Tangible Enchantment

December 29, 2009 by Editor

Though the universe as a whole is imbued with an undeniable aura of magic, we can further fill our lives with magic by creating a collection of magical things. More than being simply beautiful, such objects can potentially play an active role in the shaping of our experience as each magical object serves a unique and multifaceted purpose. Some inspire us to reflect while some have the power to positively influence our moods. Others take us back in time, capturing in their essence memories locked in history or helping us reaffirm our connection with the universe. Magical objects can be found almost anywhere and can be practically anything, from gifts of nature to manmade artifacts. You’ll know an object is truly magical when it touches you deeply, awakening some primal part of yourself that is more profoundly connected to the ethereal. Read more

Water, a great teacher

March 25, 2009 by Editor

The journey of water as it flows upon the earth can be a mirror of our own paths through life. Water begins its residence on earth as it falls from the sky or melts from ice and streams down a mountain into a tributary or stream. In the same way, we come into the world and begin our lives on earth. Like a river that flows within the confines of its banks, we are born with certain defining characteristics that govern our identity. We are born in a specific time and place, within a specific family, and with certain gifts and challenges. Within these parameters, we move through life, encountering many twists, turns, and obstacles along the way just as a river flows. Read more

Remembering that we are brave spirits

March 20, 2009 by Editor

Most of us are familiar with the idea that we are not human beings having spiritual experiences; instead, we are spiritual beings having human experiences. We hear this and even though we may experience a resounding yes in our bodies, we may not take the time to really acknowledge the truth of these statements. Integrating this idea into how we view ourselves can broaden our sense of who we are and help us appreciate ourselves as brave spirits on an important mission to learn and grow here on earth.

As spiritual beings, we are visitors in this physical realm. The fact that we came here and lost all memory of what happened to us before we were born is one of the many reasons that it takes so much courage for a soul to incarnate on earth. This is why spiritual inquiry so often feels like a remembering—because it is. Read more

Spirituality spot found in the brain?

December 29, 2008 by Editor

What makes us feel spiritual? It could be the quieting of a small area in our brains, a new study suggests.

The area in question – the right parietal lobe – is responsible for defining “Me,” said researcher Brick Johnstone of Missouri University. It generates self-criticism, he said, and guides us through physical and social terrains by constantly updating our self-knowledge: my hand, my cocktail, my witty conversation skills, my new love interest …

People with less active Me-Definers are more likely to lead spiritual lives, reports the study in the current issue of the journal Zygon. Read more

Some thoughts on Sunday, December 28, 2008

December 29, 2008 by Dr. Rob

A few years ago I was very unhappy and depressed. I found myself searching and searching outside of myself for  the happiness I so much wanted. This journey sent me into a slight tail spin of many relationships and lots of spiritual experiences. I was not a  believer in GOD. I was reading a tremendous amount, (which due to my reading  difficulties I previously had not done)  journaling, attending retreats and seeing a shrink. I thought I was nuts.

Through all of this I found that we are all one and seeking the same things out of life. Also, we carry it  with us each and every moment of life but most of us do not know how to tap  into the spiritual being we truly are. I found myself seeking others to guide me and make me whole. It wasn’t until I realized that this thing we  all call GOD is all around us and all of the ups and downs in life are part of the journey of life. Read more
