Half-Full or Half-Empty Thinking

October 26, 2009 by Editor

We are all familiar with the metaphorical story of two people looking at the same glass and one perceiving it as half-full while the other sees it as half-empty. As much as we’ve heard this, it’s still a valuable exercise to really observe our minds and notice whether we are engaged in half-full or half-empty thinking. People will refer to themselves as being of one type or the other as if it was a permanent characteristic, but we are all capable of shifting into a half-full consciousness if we simply make the effort. Denise Kelly’s classroom intention: Year 2, Week 1

Classroom Intention
I HAVE THE I CAN DO IT ATTITUDE!
When I get out of bed, I decide the kind of attitude I am going to have.
Will I decide to have the I can do it attitude or will I decide to have the I can’t do it attitude?
The I can do it attitude makes me feel so good inside!
The I can do it attitude makes me believe I can do anything!
It makes me believe I can get a PMP ticket!
It makes me believe I can make my own clubhouse!
It makes me believe I can read, do math and write a story!
It makes me think of my dad and grandpa; they really believe I can do anything!
The I can do it attitude makes me feel like I can help others believe they can do it, too!
Most of all the I can do it attitude makes me believe in myself!
And it makes me feel warm and happy because
I KNOW I CAN DO IT!

How you affect others daily

September 17, 2009 by Editor

As the pace and fullness of modern life serve to isolate us from one another, the contact we do share becomes vastly more significant. We unconsciously absorb each other’s energy, adopting the temperament of those with whom we share close quarters, and find ourselves changed after the briefest encounters. Everything we do or say has the potential to affect not only the individuals we live, work, and play with but also those we’ve just met. Though we may never know the impact we have had or the scope of our influence, accepting and understanding that our attitudes and choices will affect others can help us remember to conduct ourselves with grace at all times. When we seek always to be friendly, helpful, and responsive, we effortlessly create an atmosphere around ourselves that is both uplifting and inspiring. Read more

Riding lessons for life #15

Positive Competition Attitude:
Maintaining a positive mental attitude is important in all aspects of life, but as a competitor as well as a coach I am constantly aware of how important a positive mental attitude is in a competition setting. Horse show riders need to keep a positive attitude in the show ring.

I find it’s important to visualize jumping your course of fences perfectly with your horse.  You have to keep those positive images and those positive thoughts in your head as you enter the ring.  Any negativity or worry will transpire to the horse and he’ll also begin to worry!  Thinking positively during your whole course is imperative.  Even if you have a mishap at one jump, keep going as if nothing happened and try to do the next one better.  It’s essential that one mistake doesn’t snowball into everything getting worse and worse.  The same is true in life; we don’t let one bump in the road throw us totally off course!  Instead we take a deep breath, learn from our mistake, gather ourselves up and get back on track. You are worthy

January 1, 2009 by Editor

You are worthy of the best in life. It’s not because anyone tells you so or gives you permission to be, but because you know deep down that you are.

You have every reason to feel great about the good and valuable things you have done. You have the ability to expand on that goodness, on that value, on your own special gifts.

Where you are is a very good place to be. For you are in a position to truly make a difference by expressing and fulfilling your most deeply held values and dreams. Read more
