Gratitude and the question of worthiness
October 20, 2009 by Editor

We all know what it’s like to finally get something we want, only to find ourselves feeling as if we don’t deserve it. Whether it’s a car, a new job, or a date with someone wonderful, we suddenly feel as if we are not up to it. Something in us wants to reject this gift from the universe, perhaps because it requires that we think of ourselves in a new way or makes us question why we should have something that others don’t have. If these feelings of unworthiness are not consciously acknowledged, they can lead us to sabotage ourselves out of the gift being offered. Perhaps the best way to avoid rejection and sabotage is to simply shift into a state of gratitude, bypassing the question of worthiness altogether. Read more
Finding joy in life’s surprises
September 18, 2009 by Editor

As we endeavor to find personal fulfillment and realize our individual ideals, we naturally form emotional attachments to those outcomes we hope will come to pass. These expectations can serve as a source of stability, allowing us to draft plans based on our visions of the future, but they can also limit our potential for happiness by blinding us to equally satisfying yet unexpected outcomes. Instead of taking pleasure in the surprising circumstances unfolding around us, we mourn for the anticipation left unfulfilled. When we think of letting go of our expectations, we may find ourselves at the mercy of a small inner voice that admonishes us to strive for specific goals, even if they continually elude us. However, the opposite of expectation is not pessimism. A Christmas story
December 2, 2008 by Elisabeth Hurley

Christmas is coming. I have been going crazy trying to figure out what to give my mother. She always loved my stories. This is it! I am going to write something for her. Something that I know she will like …
It was last year. Mom had been in the hospital for two weeks. Dad had left us and was far away. I was feeling blue and didn’t even want to think of Christmas. Just the thought of spending the holiday at home gave me the creeps. The thought of spending it in the hospital was even worse. I hated being there and almost had to force myself to visit my mother. I couldn’t stand seeing her sick. All I wanted to do was run.
Thank goodness, Yoni was there. At least, he listened to me when I cried. “Why do all my friends live so far away? They are all having dinner right now with their families. How lucky they are.” Read more

Each of us is born with a specific genius that was bestowed upon us so we can do our part to make this world a better place. All of us have a role that we’re uniquely suited for. Imagine our planet without trees, oceans, or clouds. In this same way, when one of us doesn’t develop or use our special gift, a cosmic void takes place. Read more
