Better to Give and Receive!

Each year my family adopts a woman and her children from a local women’s shelter as our “foster family”. We surprise them with a Christmas that they didn’t expect.    You see most often they leave their apartments or their homes with what they have on their back and arrive homeless, hopeless and empty to the shelter for refuge.

So, on Black Friday my whole family hit the sales with military precision.  Members are armed with their list, my sister and I usually have the kitchen, and off we go at 4:00 o’clock in the morning to get the amazing deals to outfit a new home!  The list usually consists of towels, microwave, pans, dishes, and silverware and such.

What is the most startling of the requested items is that typically the children ask for us to purchase gifts for their mother and not for them and if they do ask, the list contains crayons, pj’s and socks, more necessities than indulgences.

Shouldn’t these items be a given in someone’s life? Read more

Holiday Coping Suggestions by Kristen Magnacca

With the holiday season upon us and prior to the busyness of this time swinging into full gear, I would like to take this opportunity to send a reminder of how important it is to Nurture, Nurture, Nurture yourself, your spouse and your relationship.  Remember to incorporate that one nurturing item into your day.  Something small and simple to create the regeneration of your mind, body and soul so that you are able to give to others.  You have to fill yourself up before you can give to others!

The other suggestion I would like to offer is to practice your Elevator Speech and have it at the ready.  Remember?  An elevator speech is a well-rehearsed script that rolls off your tongue to answer the questions… “So, when are you going to have a baby?” or   “Do you have children?

Here’s my favorite again:  “We have a whole team of experts working on that”.

Also, it is okay to say “NO” to an invitation if you feel as though you are not up to the event.  Or if it is a mandatory event, try breaking the time down into manageable chunks, say to yourself… “Okay, I’ll stay for appetizers and then head out”.  If you feel as though you can stay longer, do but if that is all you can handle, you managed the event well and head out on your merry way! Giving yourself permission to feel and do what is best for you is the best gift you can give yourself right now… doing so without self-judgment!

Please join me for a Tele-Workshop on December 7th at 6:30 pm.  Call in from the comfort of your own home and will discuss some “Holiday Survival Strategies” to help you move though this holiday season will joy.

New Connections

October 30, 2009 by Kristen Magnacca

Change is a good thing… really.  Without change the universe isn’t able to receive direction to begin to create something new.  The other day while on a coaching call with an amazing woman we discussed the balancing of her heart’s desire, faith and the perceived stumbling blocks that are associated with life.

The questions that we were addressing were:

How do you balance the leap of faith of newness and hold onto the faith that all is possible with the human emotions of uncertainty? The uncertainty of life can create fear, anxiety and upset.  I am a firm believer that if you change your emotions in order to create new connections, you create a new existence.

Dr. Joe Dispenza who has devoted himself to the study of neuroplasticity says “neurons that fire together stay together” has an amazing video on his website that shows in real time a “thought” and it’s connection to the neurons within the brain.  He then goes on and shows the image of learning something new and an image of changing your mind. (Check out Dr. Joe Dispenza.com for amazing video that shows this concept http://www.drjoedispenza.com/)

It is amazing.  That literally you can see your brain in action, having a thought and then seeing the working of that thought.  Also, how if you change the emotional component you change the links.  What this video made clear to me is that if you consistently feel or become angry or sad, hopeless on a daily basis, then the connections become strong and create tentacles.

This means that you are creating a new neural connection that you have all the control over.  Reminding yourself that this is a temporary situation that requires consistent attention until completion will help you fall back onto your healthy thought patterns and have the resilience to move through the unhealthy thoughts quicker.

You could ask yourself “Is the thought I am thinking helpful or harmful to me? I guarantee you’ll get the answer you desire.

~~~
Come and learn more about this and other strategies for coping when I present Dr. Rob’s Love and Infertility Workshop Part 1 to be held at the Rochester Center on November 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Also, feel free to call in to the December 8th Tele-workshop at 8:00 pm for a review of strategies from Love and Infertility Workshop Part I and some helpful holiday strategies.
Singleness of Eye and Purity of Intention
I don’t even know his name.  He was a visiting priest at my church who during his sermon mentioned the book “A Gift from the Sea” written by Anne Marrow Lindbergh. As he quoted from the book I quickly jotted down the title and when I arrived home immediately ordered it from Amazon.
Anne Marrow Lindbergh was a pioneering American aviator, author, and the spouse of fellow aviator Charles Lindbergh.  I knew little of her when I began reading her book but was drawn to her writing immediately as she shared her desire “to be at peace with myself and wanting singleness of eye, a purity of intention, a central core to my life that will enable me to carry out these obligations and activities as well as I can”.
To carry out ones obligation and activities with singleness of eye (I interpreted this as singleness of focus) and purity of intention (again, what am I hoping the outcome of daily events will be) has been my study and passion for years. Read more
I wanted to take this opportunity and share with you the upcoming Love and Infertility events for the fall at all three CNY Fertility & CNY Healing Arts Center locations.
Once again, Dr. Rob Kiltz has invited me to share the Love and Infertility Workshop Series beginning with Part I ~  “I just want a baby! Change the questions that you’re asking yourself and succeed.” Are the questions that you’re asking yourself driving you crazy? Why can everyone else get pregnant but me? What will happen if I don’t … create enough follicles? Ovulate? What will happen if this cycle does not work?
The series will run a bit different from the last session, as I will be rotating each month between the three centers:
Syracuse on Wednesday, September 30th, 2009, 6:00-8:30pm
Albany on October 6 th Tuesday, 6-8:30pm
Rochester November 17th Tuesday, 6-8:30pm
December offers a Tele Workshop for all three centers, details coming.
If you already attended the series please know that this session will have a refresher of some already presented material along with new tid-bits, insights and strategies.
Summer loving!
What do you love the most about summer?
The weather? The sun? The water-sports?  The food, hmmm…the seasonal foods like cucumbers, squash or perhaps the berries, the raspberries, strawberries or blueberries?
Or do you love the entire feel of the summer energy? For me it is everything… the feel of summer that brings the shift in the energy to that of anticipation of more relaxation and joy.
Now that we are in the middle of August have you felt in your own life, the Energy Shifting? Energy Shift can be something that happens to us unconsciously or with practice consciously.
During our fertility journey I was unconscious to the shifts that occurred in my energy and ultimately my emotions. Take for example, the nightly instruction call.  I would allow my fear around the injection instruction to bring forth anxiety into the time of actually giving myself the shot to the point that I would freeze and be unable to complete the injections.  This created another situation of having to have Mark give me the injections. The event will take place on Tuesday, June 2 at the renowned Tavern on the Green in New York City.
The Love and Infertility Workshop Series might have ended but the friendship and camaraderie built is still going strong. The Latham Group has developed a strong sense of community and support.  CNY Fertility Center completely understands the mind, body and soul approach to creation and that is why these workshops are Dr. Rob’s gifts. If you haven’t attended a workshop series as of yet we encourage you to do so. See some of the upcoming dates below. Just like the Latham Group you gain so much more than understanding.
~Blessings, Kristen
