Don’t Discount Gratitude
Article after article has been written about gratitude. To the point that I believe people simply bypass gratitude articles to look for something new, something fresh. But wait, stop and think about why so many people write and talk about gratitude. It is because it WORKS!
Gratitude is your first step in the Law of Attraction. The more time you spend being grateful the more the universe will show up and prove you are right. You will suddenly have more and more to be grateful for.
A recent example from my own life happened just this week. I wrote in detail, with an open heart, how grateful I was for my life on facebook. A little later I walked into my kitchen for lunch and sitting on my counter were 12 red roses in a pretty clear vase. My husband, for no particular reason, bought them and left them for me to find. The more I open my heart to gratitude, the more I find to be grateful for. It is a win-win situation!
Another example is from a client. I was working with a young man recently and I asked him how he had developed such a good sense of what he had and what he wanted to develop further in his life. He told me how much his gratitude journal had helped him. He only wrote two things each day he was grateful for and it changed his life.
Are you ready to change your life? If yes, then let’s begin.
Chose your gratitude journal with care. Buy one that delights you. Or make your own out of a notebook. You can add photos or draw pictures on the front. It should inspire you to use it each time you see it. I had my clients make their own journal in a retreat once and I was surprised recently to see years later they still had them. Make your journal that kind of meaningful.
Either when you first get up or just before bed is the best time to write in your journal. You will be more focused and open to gratitude. Simply list 2-10 things you are grateful for. Try very hard not to list the same things. You really want to go deep here. Dig for things you are grateful for that you take for granted or have not thought of in a long time. Such as a long hot shower, electricity, or the soft breathing sounds of your children sleeping.
Get others involved. You can start a gratitude chain. Get a few friends you trust with your inner life and send your gratitude list to one of them each day by email. Then have that person send theirs to a different friend and so on. All this gratitude hitting inboxes is bound to stir up some positive energy. You can also simply do an email exchange with one other person. I did this for a couple of years with a woman I never met. It was very powerful.
Don’t stop. We all live busy hectic lives, but I am sure you can at least find time to write down two things a day you are grateful for. It just might have a bigger effect on your life than you can even imagine.
“We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.” – Thornton Wilder
