New Year’s Resolutions

New Year’s Resolutions – we all make them, however do we keep them?  I believe that everyday should be a day to do something outstanding, something you have never done before. We should always try our best to be nice to others.  We should treat ourselves with the same kindness and respect that we treat others with.  However sometimes this is harder said than done.  This year I decided I would put a daily intention or list of items out there.  One by one check them off, and bring about 2012 in a way that is rewarding, and fulfilling for myself as well as those I come in contact with.  After all, we do live by example.   The best compliments I ever receive are when others take my advice, use me as a role model, or even steal my ideas and call or use them as their own.

With all this said, I have set goals of taking better care of myself this year.   I want to be able to receive, as well as give to others.    This has been a wonderful experience.   I set an intention of getting bodywork, massage, acupuncture or the like at least twice a month.  I also want to have fresh flowers in my home on a bimonthly basis.   All this has been fun and has been achieved thus far.  Some might say, “So?  It has only been 26-30 days.”  However for the mind to wrap itself around something it only takes 21-28 days of reminders for it to set in comfortably; to become a “habit.”

I have also decided that if I am sick, I will STOP; listen to my body and what it is trying to tell me, and HONOR the time it will take to HEAL.  This I have done as well.

Major items that have been set up or manifested into my life have been a big flat screen TV, and an elliptical.  Both have been delivered, set up and used.  I also wanted to update and apply for my passport, which has been completed and delivered to my door in less than two weeks.

I have also set out to reconnect with a few special friends whom I have not seen in some time.   I am proud to say I have enjoyed some wonderful time of catch up and renewal over the past month.

One must HONOR themselves first before they can honor another, or share the wonderful gifts that are inside all of us. Fill your own cup up first; and watch yourself grow.

Looking forward to February this year…

- In Honor

  1. I LOVE TO HEAR YOUR STORIES AND LISTEN TO YOUR TEACHINGS. I WISH I WERE AROUND YOU AS MUCH AS I WAS 20 SOME YEARS AGO. WE STILL NEED TO GET TOGETHER ALSO. I HAVE YOUR CARD IN MY WALLETT AND THINK ABOUT YOU AND US GETTING TOGETHER ALOT BUT IT JUST SEEMS LIKE THE DAY ENDS BEFORE IT STARTS MOST OF THE WEEK. LOVE YA

  2. I am known for making goals and not fufilling them. But this year like you I have made my new years resolution to take better care of myself. Not only for me but for the little boy I’m growing inside me! I would love to say I could commit to massage etc twice a month but for me it’s not realistic. I do keep fresh flowers in the house but only when my peonies bloom haha. I have made it my mission that little by little I will pamper myself better :)

  3. Go Joanne- lead the way! May we all open ourselves to receive more love by making time and space to do so. May all thoughts of not deserving, loss of control, not feeling as important as others and whatever else obstructs receiving love dissolve and give way to our heart’s longing to love- including ourselfs.

  4. Joanne,
I always sit and smile… like I imagine the Cheshire cat does…as I read your posts, just so pleased you are doing so fabulous!!! I am doing a seminar next month for RCI and a big part of it is on how shifting your daily habits can change your entire life. Keep going and as you know the more positive energy you put out into the world the more you will get back in return…not to mention how it helps the collective consciousness. (Don’t need to tell you that! LOL) Keep shining your lovely light in the world for all to be enlighten by!

  5. You are a true inspiration!! You make me proud to call you my cousin!! I love you, Jo…

  6. Joanne, I am so happy to have met you, you have inspired me and I am looking forward to learning from you. Remember I told you I my intention was to live a healthier life, well after 4wks I am down 17 #, feel so much better and have more energy. This is not a diet it is a lifestyle change. I exercise every day. A friend also once told me that when I felt sick to listen to my body, I have been more mindfully of that also, it’s amazing how it works. Thank you for your beautiful words.

  7. Joanne, I love the your outlook on life, & on the future. The positive force you have embraced and shared with others. I to have been trying to put myself first. (not an easy task) You inspire me to be a better me..

  8. Love it! Every day is precious and needs to be lived to the fullest, including respecting yourself and others. You are so right. Easier said than done. Too often we put ourselves last and forget to take care of both our physical and spiritual needs.

  9. Jo.. you are such an inspiration to me.. I love knowing your my friend.. your stories make me think of ways to make my life better. Thank you..

  10. Joanne, thanks for being such a good and positive friend! I’m very glad that Kathy Storsberg introduced us, and that we also have a mutual friend in the inimitable Jerome Witkin! In my case, I need to learn to take more time to have fun and do things I like to do, since I tend to get wrapped up in work and in being there for other people. Doing “Arts Talk” and working with Jerome has also made me realize that I need to enjoy my creative side more. I find it’s even good for my health; when I was at my doctor’s recently after a rough day, my blood pressure was a bit high, so they left me alone for a bit before taking it again. I got out my embroidery until they took another reading, and the nurse called out, “Doc! Look at this! She’s dropped 20 points doing her cross-stitch! Keep doing what you’re doing, because it works!” I guess it does, and I recommend it!

  11. Joanne, I was enlightened by your thoughts and teachings. You let me examine my inner self. And you were right, I have made resolutions too but never fulfill them. I want to become better person too. It’s just, I need more discipline and determination for myself.

  12. Belief is a powerful healer. I am so happy for those of you who decided to make change and believed in yourself to make it true. What we feel, want and believe must come from within.
I take time everyday to take care of myself and to give positive messages to others. A simple smile or “that’s a pretty shirt”, could drastically change someone’s day!
Change is difficult for many of us. Decide what it is that you want, know why, write it down, and go for it. You can do it!
    :)

“Reality is what we take to be true. What we take to be true is what we believe. What we believe is based upon our perceptions. What we perceive depends upon what we look for. What we look for depends upon what we think. What we think depends upon what we perceive. What we perceive determines what we believe. What we believe determines what we take to be true. What we take to be true is our reality.”

  13. It sounds like the Laws of Attraction at Work!

  14. You an inspiration to many! I have treasured the advice and/or perspective you have given me throughout the years. Thanks for reminding me to keep on track and to remember to make time to take care of myself. Looking forward to a Happy New Year!

  15. Jo**,
I have made resolutions for years and often I too, never fulfill them and then I wonder, “why”, especially knowing the power of intention really works?:} For today however, as I recoup from this surgery, which has almost made me be with me ALOT, it seems to be a chore to allow myself permission to do just that, take care of me, BUT, I’m doing it. The hard part is asking others for help.
I want to become a better person too, I just need more discipline and determination for myself, which like so many of us have difficulty doing. And one thing these pst 2 weeks I have found about me is I am a loving individual, who enjoys time alone but who does not really like to be alone.
I love your spirit, strength and all that you have shared personally and universally. Love has many forms, the best are the one’s untold and show up just when you need to know.
Thank you for you and I have hopes for 2012.
    Rev

  16. Joanne:

Taking time to write your stories not only sets a great example for stopping to reflect on one’s life but also provides an opportunity for others to experience our commonalities. Thank you!

Wonder why receiving is such a challenge for so many people? You inspire us to keep at it by loving ourseleves enough to accept the goodness meant for everyone. So, let’s continue to practice together! I am grateful for your reminders.
