June 21st is the Summer Solstice, the astronomical event when we hit summer and the sun actually appears to reverse direction while reaching its northernmost extreme. The Celebration of the summer has ancient ties and the people believed that the mid-summer plants had miraculous healing powers and picked them on this night. (I read this on Wikipedia).
You might be wondering why I am bringing up the Summer Solstice and it’s correlation to the fertility journey?
Here’s my personal experience. During my first year during our journey, I was no holds barred, GO, GO, GO and it went like this “Diagnosis, surgery, treatment cycle, treatment cycle, treatment cycle with no breaks,” Boom, boom, boom.
The second year:
Slower pace: But still the intensity of it all BOOM, BOOM, BOOM with a greater emotional charge about getting pregnant and moving forward, with a “forced” break because of high levels.
The Third year:
Exhausted and overwhelmed with grief… I couldn’t physically keep up the pace and was knocked down.
What I know now that I wish I knew then…
Connect to the energy of the earth and what is happening externally. Get your clues from nature just like the ancient people did about the timing of picking plants; understanding that the “readiness” of the plant was summer and then they celebrated the harvesting of the plants.
Especially in the Northeast, we need to store up the sunshine and the energy of the outdoors to get us through the longer wintry days.
So, what I wish for you is that you take solace in the summer, use this time for relaxation, connection to your partner and filling yourself up. Find comfort in the fact that you are getting through the process and it will come to an end. Use summer for “consolation in a time of distress” which is how solace is defined.
