Balancing Energy:

I’ve observed something interesting in the relationship between horses and riders.  Horses and riders create harmonious partnerships; they tend to balance one another out.  Riders that have very active, energized personalities do very well on calm, relaxed horses.  The relaxed horse needs an energized rider to get them motivated!  Riders that are very calm and relaxed themselves do well on highly energetic horses because the calm rider tends to relax the energized horse.

Balance.  The different personality types balance one another so that horse and rider are in harmony. I’ve also observed this same balance in humans.  When you’re feeling down or unmotivated, you seek out those people in your life that will energize and lift your spirits up.  When you have a hundred things happening at once in your life, you seek those that will help calm and relax you.  We all balance each other in life.  Our energy levels vary day to day, even hour by hour throughout the day and it’s often our connections with other people that can help us balance our energy so that we are working in harmony with the energy of the universe.

It’s also important to have a set of “go to” people or activities that you know will either energize or relax you depending on your energy needs.  Maybe doing yoga, listening to relaxing music, or having tea will help relax you when you need to bring your energy levels down.  Perhaps going for a run or listening to fast, upbeat music or reading a positive, motivational book will help energize you when your energy levels are low.

In horseback riding, it’s our equine partners that balance our energy level.  In life, our human companions and specific activities can help us keep our energy levels balanced.  Balance and harmony are required for a partnership between horse and rider as well for a partnership between humans.
