Return to wellness: Seven quick fixes to feeling better

September 30, 2009 by Editor

The signals our bodies use to tell us we need to cleanse ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally are multifaceted and often mirror symptoms we associate with illness. If we heed these signs, we not only feel better quickly but also stave off poor health before it can start. These quick fixes for common ailments can get you started.

1. Applying pressure to the acupressure point between the thumb and forefinger can release blockages causing pain, tension, and fatigue. You can relieve a headache naturally by squeezing for 20 seconds and releasing for 10 seconds, without letting go, four times.

2. To breathe freely, irrigate your nasal passages with a neti pot and warm salt water. As you clear and soothe the sinuses, congestion associated with allergies or infection will gradually disappear.

3. Apple cider vinegar is a powerful purifying and detoxifying agent. Read more

Dr. Rob’s 12 minute meditation, September 30th, 2009

September 30, 2009 by Dr. Rob

Dr. Rob’s 12 minute meditation:
It is all good, all of it, and I love all

Start the day with the thoughts of thee
Of the energy and the breath, that creates all of thee
Sitting lotus, tai chi, walking in the garden, simple I be
All things possible with practice, all easy
In though the nose, feel the energy flow to each and every cell of the body
The light brighten and expand beyond the physical me
Touching all and bringing joy to me
A breath, a mantra, all good, all love of thee and me
Tai chi, meditative music flowing through you and me
All easy for me to be, Namaste to thee
Dr. Rob

On my mind; thanks to Barry for the intention this day. My blessings to Leslie  for the journey of her father, eternal we all are. For it is the momentary connections we all make, for the physical being is a moment, and the energy is eternal. Also thanks to another spectacular Tuesday night at Rosalie’s Cucina, a place to find a friend in every new and renewed connection. The food, prepared with love and care, each dish especially for thee. Although I was the only guy for guys night, Gary always makes one feel part of the family. Thank you to Mickey, Mark, Jonah, Chad, Lisa, Becky, and all that make the place home.
Love,
Dr. Rob

We are our thoughts

September 29, 2009 by Dr. Rob

In the audio recording below Dr. Rob Kiltz shares the idea that we are our thoughts. Our thoughts create our day and more.

Transcription:

We are our thoughts, that’s it. Wow, what a concept, we are our thoughts and nothing else. How can that be. Someone driving down the road flips us off. Yells at us for going to slow, cutting in front of us and boy do we react. And then what does that reaction do, what does it lead to; anger, rage, fear, worry. Could it lead to an action that we might regret. The key is to practice your thoughts like you practice Tai Chi, running, biking, your musical instrument. You must practice your thoughts, as simple as that. Take a breath in, say I love you, thank you for that, have a spectacular day. Someone flips you off, I love you, thank you for that. How can I do better. You’re right thank you, I love you. Practice it Read more

Home is where the Heart is

September 29, 2009 by Editor

The word “home” has a wide variety of connotations. To some, home is merely a place where basic needs are addressed. To others, home is the foundation from which they draw their strength and tranquility. Still, others view home as a place inexorably linked to family. Yet all these definitions of home imply somewhere we can be ourselves and are totally accepted. There, we feel safe enough to let down our guard, peaceful enough to really relax, and loved enough to want to return day after day. However, these qualities need not be linked to a single space or any space at all. Home is where the heart is and can be the locale you live in, a community you once lived in, or the country where you plan to live someday. Or home can be a feeling you carry inside yourself, wherever you are. Read more

The best fats for your diet

September 29, 2009 by Heather Neely

Heather Neely
Good fats, bad fats, trans-fat, Omega-3 fatty acids.  There is a lot of information out there about the different types of fats we should or should not choose.  While fat generally has more calories per gram then carbohydrates or proteins, it is essential to our health.  Vitamins A, D, K, and E are fat-soluble, meaning that without a fat source, our bodies won’t absorb them.  Fat provides padding for our organs, and insulation from colder temperatures.  And, of course, a little fat makes everything taste better by providing texture and a rich taste.  Although fat does have some health benefits, it also carries its health risks.  Fat is linked with heart disease, diabetes, stroke and obesity.

So while we can’t avoid all fats, the idea is to choose the right ones.  If you take a look at the food guide pyramid, you will notice the very top portion allows for a healthy fat serving.   Fats are broken down into three main components:  monounsaturated fat, polyunsaturated fat, and saturated fat.  Monounsaturated fats are the heart healthy, good fats, while saturated fats are the artery-clogging bad fats that we want to limit.    Read more

Attitude is everything and more

A book recommendation: You can’t send a Duck to Eagle School, by Mac Anderson. Absolutely great book for business owners, managers and anyone else in life. Here are 10 gems of info I pulled from the book.

#1 Survey of 1 million people were taken who thought they had the best boss. The most popular answer was.. Boss was willing to listen to what they had to say. Hello….Are you listening????

#2 Keep it simple. Red Auerbach and Vince Lombardi, 2 of the all time most famous coaches, only has 3-7 plays, but practiced and practiced them to perfection. Simple enough?

#3 Southwest Air CEO was asked HOW he gets such nice employees. His answer was that he hires people with nice, positive qualities. You can’t teach people enthusiasm, motivation and to smile. It makes all the difference in the world.
Seems so simplistic, yet it makes perfect sense!

#4 Attitude is everything.  We all have down days and tough stuff. Just deal with it and BOUNCE BACK. Read more
