Finding your pinnacle, mountain meditation

July 31, 2009 by Editor

Throughout history, humankind has stood in awe of mountains. The strength and sturdiness evident in the rocky crags and smooth slopes of peaks around the globe have from time immemorial inspired creativity and kindled courage. Mountains have been venerated by many cultures, which worshiped great summits as gods and sacred beings. In their looming presence, humanity has seen power, steadfastness, and resolve. Yet you needn’t live near a mountain to tap into this vast energy of commanding grandeur. Conversely, since mountains are as unique in form as human beings, your locale may exist under the unwavering gaze of a small mountain without your knowing it. As you practice mountain meditation, the power that lurks in the heart of all mountains will flow into you while their essential beauty reminds you that you, too, are a creature of the earth.

If there are mountains in your area, plan to spend some time enjoying the peaceful embrace of Mother Nature, which can be a potent meditation aid. Likewise, grasping a rock or stone in your hand will enable you to easily tap into earth energy. If you are prevented by circumstance from visiting a mountain, however, begin by visualizing yourself at the base of a towering summit. Read more

First Born

July 31, 2009 by David Ritter

After two years of marriage my wife decided it was time to start a family. I was still working for a new Corvette. You can imagine how that went, so starting a family was the new priority. After a frustrating year without success we decided we needed to see if there was a problem. Counts were a little low here, this was turned a little off here, nothing huge. Luckily, my wife’s OB/GYN is a gifted doctor and also did artificial insemination (AI). After three failed attempts over the next 12 months we were getting crazy. Not to mention the emotional ride my poor wife was on, due to the injections for weeks, prior to the procedures.

We sat down with Dr. Brown and he said it was time for something else. He said we should try, In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF). He suggested going to Rochester at first as their facility was highly regarded nationally. He then mentioned a young OB/GYN doctor who had just set up a fertility office at a practice in Auburn and was very promising from what he had heard. We decided to go sit and INTERVIEW this upstart from California.

Even though we expected sandals and surfing shorts we were very excited about meeting Dr. Robert Kiltz. He greeted us as David and Suzanne and introduced himself as Rob. Looking very professional and just a touch of gray we immediately felt comfortable. After only twenty minutes of talking we looked at each other and new, if we were going to need help starting a family, Rob was the one to make that happen. We started immediately with excitement and zeal that we would have a family by next Christmas.

It would be eight Christmas’ and eight IVF procedures, along with an emotional ride that nearly destroyed us. Throughout everything we found such encouragement and sincerity at a soulful level from Rob. He truly could feel our pain and worked painstakingly with us, as though we were his only patients, which by now, he had moved on his own and was working 22hrs a day to keep up with every new patient. Because, with Rob, every patient is treated like they are the only patient. Rob laughed and cried with us when the news was confirmed. Nine months later, the most precious GIFT was bestowed on Suzanne and me. Maxwell, our First Born, had arrived. There is nothing in this world I would take over that GIFT, made possible through the life energy gifted to Rob.

Four years later and an incredible 4 year old, the Universe GIFTED us, unassisted, our angelic Emily. We still believe Rob put in a word with the Universe on our behalf. Max and Emily are now 8 and 4, I have happily decided that someday Max will drive me around in his Corvette.

Recipe for Sweet Potatoe Fries

July 31, 2009 by Editor

This is a very healthy alternative to regular fries or even store bought sweet potato fries (there are no preservatives in these or trans fat). Olive oil is one of the healthiest oils to consume. Research has shown that olive oil helps lower bad cholesterol levels and raises good cholesterol levels, it helps prevent heart disease and cancer. Sweet potatoes are loaded with Vitamin A ( because Vitamin A is fat soluble most of is retained when cooking).  Sweet potatoes are also loaded with other vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin C (most of it is lost when cooking because it’s a water soluble vitamin), Calcium, Iron, Phosphorus, Vitamin B, Potassium, etc.

Ingredients:

  • Sweet Potatoes cut into fries ( use a really sharp knife because they are very hard to cut through)
  • Olive oil
  • Season to taste with whatever seasoning you would like ( my favorite is salt free chili seasoning but thyme, basil, Real Salt, or whatever taste fine as well)

Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place fries into boiling water for about 2-3 minutes ( this will help them get a little crisper. Don’t let them get soft). Remove fries from water. Lightly coat fries with olive oil and seasoning of choice. Bake in the oven for about 25-30 minutes turning a couple of times. Keep an eye on them because ovens vary.

Sight

July 31, 2009 by David Ritter

Imagine driving home from a long day and suddenly your left arm is paralyzed and your face has drooped. You stay that way for the remaining hours of your drive and finally, they subside shortly after arriving at the hospital. Imagine they tell you after countless tests, that you have had, a T.I.A.(mini-stroke)and they don’t no why or if it will happen again. Imagine 2 months later you have a brain tumor and need radiation. Imagine all this happening two more times over the next two years. Oh yes, and you are also diagnosed with MS.

Why would the Universe punish anyone like this. The answer is simple, it didn’t. The Universe bestowed a “gift”, if you will, the Gift of Sight. For the first time life was being seen without the baggage we burden ourselves with from childhood. Suddenly, the beauty of a smile is seen, the warmth of a hug is accepted with joy and the music could be felt instead of only heard. The Universe sent a reminder that all the petty judgments, arrogance, opinions and material goals are worthless. Life is about living and the “gift”, was a reminder that we all face mortality so don’t waste the Blessing of Life.

The Universe is now providing another “gift” and when it is fully unwrapped, the reason will become clear. Remember, sometimes we are given a “gift” to wear so others may have SIGHT

Meditation: I am unique and loved in this life, and so are thee

July 31, 2009 by Dr. Rob

12 minute meditation
I am unique and loved in this life, and so are thee

First thing in the morning, best with meditative music, walking in the garden, or simple Tai Chi
Focus on the breath, in through the nose and out slowly with a smile
Let go of the unwanted thoughts by allowing them to flow freely and then let them go
Come to the breath and the mantra, positive thought, positive language
I am unique and loved in this life, and so are thee
This is simple and practiced each and every day, easy yoga adds much love
Namaste,
Dr. Rob

Mom/Maria update:

Trusting your gut feelings

July 30, 2009 by Editor

Gut feelings earn their name from the place in the body where they make themselves known. A pang in your gut when you may be doing the wrong thing, or a vibrant zing when your body approves, can guide you reliably at times when logic fails. Sometimes, when logic prevails, we ignore our gut and live to regret it, understanding later that a rational approach is only one way of determining what is going on in a situation and how we should react.

Our gut resides in the neighborhood of our solar plexus and the third chakra just above your belly button. When it is functioning well, we can trust its guidance and adjust our actions accordingly. Many of us have a tendency to hold in this area of our bodies. We may take shallow breaths that never reach this vital nexus that is the source of our empowerment. It is in this place that we find the courage to act, to reach out into the world and create change. When our power center is out of balance, we are timid and out of sync, wishing we had said something we were only able to phrase later when we were alone; wishing we had acted on an opportunity we didn’t see until it was past.
