Bacterial Vaginosis

March 19, 2009 by Donald Clarke

Bacterial Vaginosis is still a bit of a mystery in the medical community as to why it first appears. Their has been some speculation as to some of the causes. High fragrance soaps, non-cotton undergarments, douching with strong synthetic solutions and poor diet.

Some advancement has been made in the treatment with western medicine however; there are some simple steps that you can take to treat the symptoms yourself. The first step to recovery is to alter the ph of the vagina to a more neutral level. This can be done in several ways. Diet and lifestyle seem to be the most effective treatment and prevention.

DIET: First and foremost try to avoid processed foods. Fresh whole foods are always the best for you but when dealing with B.V. it has shown to be very beneficial. When possible lightly steamed or cooked foods are best during a cycle of  B.V. Raw foods tend to require a lot of energy for digestion and create a cold environment in the body. B.V. is seen as a damp condition in Chinese Medicine. It is so important the you try to dry up internal dampness through diet or herbal formulations. Avoid sugar, fried foods, dairy “with the exception of yogurt”, caffeine during a B.V. outbreak and alcohol. Try to eat fresh fruits and vegetables, add watermelon, cucumber and radish to your menu. These three foods will help reduce discharge.  Try to avoid high fat foods. Organic is the best option when dealing with food and hygiene products.

LIFESTYLE: Try to decrease stress. Stress is a contributor to B.V.  Take 30-60 minutes a day and decompress. Yoga and meditation are a good way to take some time for yourself. Organic soaps and hygiene products are good idea in eliminating some of the possible causes of B.V.  Try to bathe with hot water daily. Avoid non-cotton undergarments and wear loose fitting clothing.

I agree with all what you said.

BV is a condition which needs a holistic approach of healing, and this includes a healthy life style as well as good nutrition. It is a bacterial infection. A healthy body with a high immune system can prevent occurance of Bacterial Vaginosis as well as other infections.

    Greetings!
