Flowers for Food, for the Holidays and beyond
November 18, 2008 by Editor

In an effort to help feed many hungry families this holiday season Folls Flower Farm will be selling holiday greens centerpieces and donating 100% of the profits to The Food Bank of Central New York and to Oxfam International. We are calling our project Flowers for Food. I expect that the cost for supplies to make each centerpiece will be about 33% of the total cost. The amount going to the Food Bank or to Oxfam would be the remainder. In order to minimize taxes that need to be paid I will ask for two checks, one payable to Folls Flowers and one to the Food Bank or Oxfam. This will also give you a tax deduction. I will collect payment when the centerpieces are picked up or delivered. We hope to be able to conduct flower sales throughout the year in a continuing effort to help feed the world’s hungry. All centerpieces will be made with mixed evergreens, berries, pine cones and German statice. Candles will be smokeless and dripless. Our offerings this holiday season will include:
Single candle centerpiece with red or white taper - $25.00
Double candle centerpiece with red or white tapers - $35.00
Triple candle centerpiece with red or white tapers - $45.00
Pillar candle centerpiece with red or white 6″ candle - $45.00
Orders must be received by December 3rd for delivery the second week of December. A sample centerpiece will be available for viewing at Anyela’s winery located at 2433 West Lake Rd in Skaneateles starting Thanksgiving week. To order please phone 784-5501 or follsflowers@mac.com and specify the size and candle color you desire. Pick up at the farm will be announced once orders are placed or delivery will be available for an additional charge. I will be limited to the number of centerpieces I can make unless I have volunteer help. If you are interested in helping please let me know asap. If orders are placed before November 13, we can receive a discount on greens from the wholesaler. We can also use donations of greens, pine cones and berries.
Consider having your church group or garden club book a workshop to create many therefore increasing our ability to help those in need!
