Fibromyalgia dietary recommendations
November 4, 2008 by Donald Clarke

First and foremost Fibromyalgia is not as understood as some conditions. The triggers and or causes of this condition remains somewhat a mystery. What may cause symptoms in one person may not be the same for another. The best approach to dietary recommendations is that diets should be individualized.
A good place to start is by eliminating specific foods for a period of 10 days to determine if these specific foods play a role in symptoms. Start with the wheat, dairy, sugar. These three foods are in just about everything that we eat. It is possible with a little planning to eliminate these foods from your diet. Remember, it is just for 10 days. Try to avoid acidic foods such as tomatoes, strawberries, grapefruit, lime, pineapple and oranges.
Caloric intake seems to play a major part in treating the symptoms associated with Fibromyalgia. An undernourished body has to rely on the vital energy stores in large organ systems like the liver and kidneys. It is important that when treating Fibromyalgia appropriate caloric intake occurs daily. Correct fruits, vegetables and protein are essential in maintaining a proper caloric intake. The best protein is a meat. Beef has the most protein of meats. If you are concerned with cholesterol choose a lean piece of meat. If you are a vegetarian increase the amount of legumes you consume. Nuts such as walnuts or pistachio provide healthy fats. Try to avoid fat free only foods. Our bodies need fat …
Keep your blood levels healthy. Fibromyalgia can sometimes be mistaken for anemia or blood deficiency. Make sure that you eat your dark leafy green vegetables such as broccoli and spinach. The very first step in treating Fibromyalgia is taking a balanced multi vitamin and mineral supplement in addition to eating healthy and appropriate foods. It is especially important to avoid artificial sweeteners, coffee, alcohol and tobacco.
