Consider traveling to South Sudan in 2009
October 13, 2008 by Judy Lindsey
I want to challenge others to think outside the box and to consider giving to a community very much in need of Basic Maternal child health intervention, education, technical assistance. Our Lost Boys clinic developed and supported by many in Central New York is located in Duk County, South Sudan. Our medical team sees approximately 70 patients/day and opened in Spring of 2007. Although we do support an interdisciplinary team of Sudanese staff, they are coached by our American physician team, and have been observed by volunteer doctors who give up some precious vacation time to experience a poverty stricken part of the world, deliver direct services and teach medical students and others alongside the delivery of care.
We need to identify locally a network of midwives, physicians, nutritionists, public health folks and nurses to continue to support our small Board of Directors and local folks like Drs David Reed, Barb Connor, John Covell, and our non medical volunteers including Jack Howard, Bill Allyn, and so many others who want to complete the full circle of seeing what we’ve started be sustained and properly turned over to the community in South Sudan in the next year or two. Your thoughts are welcome.
Warm regards,
Judy Lindsey
