We set our own rules and limits
September 30, 2008 by Randall J Skates

Last week I wrote about the final chapter from a book I recently read, Timothy Feriss’ “The Four Hour Work Week”. Below is the other section of the last chapter I wanted to share with everyone.
The Last Chapter Continued
“If you are confused about life, you’re not alone. There are almost seven billion of us. This isn’t a problem of course, once you realiize that life is neither a problem to be solved nor a game to be won.
If you are too intent on making the pieces of a nonexistant puzzle fit , yiou miss out on the real fun. The heaviness of success-chasing can be replaced with serendipitous lightness when you recognize that the only rules and limits are those we set for ourselves.
So, be bold and don’t worry about what other people think. They don’t do it that often anyway.”
This is an email from a terminally ill girl in a hospital in NY.
Slow Dance
Have you ever watched kids
On a merry-go-roud?
Or listened to the rain
Slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?
You better slow down
Don’t dance too fast.
Time is short.
The music won’t last.
Do you run through each day
On the fly?
When you ask: How are you?
Do you hear the reply?
When the day is done
do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores
Running through your head?
You’d better slow down.
Don’t dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won’t last.
Ever told your child,
We’ll do it tomorrow?
And in your haste,
Not see his sorrow?
Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die
“Cause you never had time
To call and say,”Hi.”?
You’d better slow down.
Don’t dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won’t last.
When you run so fast to get somewhere,
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day,
It is like an unopened gift thrown away.
Life is not a race.
Do take it slower.
Hear the music
Before the song is over.
