Footbath fix
September 9, 2008 by Katherine Scholl
Now that the busy summer season is coming to a close, it’s a good time to slow down a bit and replenish our energy. With the evenings getting cooler, a simple way to relax and re-energize at home is with an herbal footbath. You can use one or any combination of herbs you have on hand - rosemary, sage, lavender and ginger are all good footbath herbs. Place them in a pot, fill with water and bring to a low simmer for 5-8 minutes. Pour into a large basin. You can adjust temperature with cold water. If you don’t have any herbs on hand, you can sprinkle in some Quaker Oats or some Epsom salts after the water has simmered. Keep the footbath water very hot – almost uncomfortably so, but without burning your feet. Sit in a comfortable chair with some relaxing music or just keep it quiet and practice deep abdominal breathing (see past article Breath Deeply). Slowly sink your feet in and cover the basin with a towel to retain the heat. Ahh!
Tread lightly…
