Being green in small ways everyday Part 2

July 29, 2008 by Matt Wolf

If you missed the first 9 “small ways to be green everyday” read the article here.

10. Wrap your water heater in an insulation blanket. You can save an astounding amount of carbon dioxide (1,000 pounds) by doing something so simple.

11. Cover pots while cooking. Covering pots will not allow as much heat energy to escape while preparing the dish.

12. Plant more of your own food. If you have an adequate yard for gardening, attempt to plant your own vegetables. Also if you have the opportunity to, buy local vegetables and fruit. Fruit and vegetables harvested elsewhere incur large transportation costs that increase prices and release CO2.

13. Plant trees. This obvious method for reducing the concentration of carbon dioxide can be accomplished through community events and through personal effort.

14. Reduce your meat consumption
. Compared with vegetables, fruit, and grains, meat takes significantly more energy to manufacture and process. Deforestation also occurs in order to find grazing fields for the animals that become our dinner. You don’t have to stop eating meat, just try to eat a little less of it.

15. Reduce the number of catalogs you receive. Many of the catalogs we receive are a waste of paper and trees. You can opt out of catalogs online.

16. Bring your own bags while shopping and reuse old shopping bags. This will reduce the number of plastic bags in circulation meaning less pollution and less carbon dioxide emissions.

17. Use bikes, public transportation and carpool often. These are all ways to alleviate the pain caused by the rise in fuel costs, and decrease carbon dioxide emissions in the transportation sector.

18. Keep up maintenance on your car. Regular inspections and small modifications can improve the efficiency of your car, reduce your time on the road, and reduce your emissions.

19. Encourage others to become environmentally conscious. Join a community where you can get your message across, and don’t just encourage other families and individuals. Tell Congress and government to act in order to combat global warming and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Look for other ways to reduce your carbon footprint and visit websites that challenge you to “be green,” such as carbonrally.com.

Bring Your Own Bag offers reusable tote bags that are both environmentally and fashion conscious. When you use a BYOB bag you help support socially and ethically responsible practices. Our tote bags are of superior quality. Made in Vancouver, BC CANADA.

Each BYOB tote you use will prevent hundreds of plastic bags from
ending up in our oceans, in our trees, or buried in our Earth.
