Grateful - Hearth and Home
June 29, 2008 by Ken5
It has been a great weekend. Saturday, we were up and out the door early, to help friends move. Their new home is beautiful. Our friendship is new, and developing, and they are nice people. His wife is having a baby, and we are looking forward to watching our children grow together. After the work was done, we ate together, talked, and enjoyed each other’s company.
Sunday, we worked on our own home. Friends visited us in the afternoon, a too short and very sweet visit. One of our visitors brought her mom, an 86 year old lady. She was lively, lovely and I instantly liked her. Still, she was sad. I think that seeing the baby brought her a mixture of joy and sadness. Joy, for the beauty of the baby, for seeing the beginning of the spark of life. Sadness, with the renewed realization of her own age. She looked at her body and said it was ugly. I told her that, on the contrary, she was beautiful, and that I thought it wonderful that she was here, now, to see herself, the baby, and to spend time with us.
I hope she visits with us again, and told her so. When she left she had a radiant smile.
When I’m Sixty-Four -The Beatles
When I get older losing my hair,
Many years from now.
Will you still be sending me a valentine
Birthday greetings bottle of wine.
If I’d been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door,
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I’m sixty-four.
You’ll be older too,
And if you say the word,
I could stay with you.
I could be handy, mending a fuse
When your lights have gone.
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings go for a ride.
Doing the garden, digging the weeds,
Who could ask for more.
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I’m sixty-four.
Every summer we can rent a cottage,
In the Isle of Wight, if it’s not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera, Chuck & Dave
Send me a postcard, drop me a line,
Stating point of view
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, wasting away
Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I’m sixty-four.
